Volcano Cooking
The king of all Dutch oven accessories is the Volcano Camp Stove.

And now the Volcano II Collapsible Stove pictured on the right is available. With a Volcano you can cook anything! They’re portable, lightweight and efficient, and great for camping, tailgate parties, patio entertainment and emergency preparedness.
The Volcano ll collapsible stove, is easy to set up. Lifting the handle raises the upper body while the legs swing out and lock in place. Lifting the lower section of the body collapses the stove for storage. The patented heat chamber conducts heat more efficiently than conventional stoves, and has been designed for use with a 12” Dutch Oven.
It has adjustable vents to adjust how fast your fuel burns, and helps to insure maximum heat efficiency and versatility. You can use charcoal briquettes, wood, or propane with an optional attachment. They are proven to be environmentally safe and useable even where no open first are allowed, and in “No Trace Camping” that is recommended by the Forestry Department and the boy and Girl Scouts of America.
There is very little bottom heat so cooking on wood decks, stream banks, patio’s and picnic tables is not a problem. All Volcanoes come equipped with a top grille and a bottom grate for holding charcoal briquettes or wood. When using a 12” Dutch Oven, all you need is 12 to 15 charcoal briquettes

Cooking Tips when using a Volcano with a Dutch Oven
When cooking with a Dutch Oven, arrange the coals in a circle on the bottom. This will provide even heating to both the sides and the bottom of the oven. Using more than the suggested number of briquettes will generate unnecessary heat and may cause food to over cook or burn. Only use 8, 10 or 12 inch Dutch Ovens when cooking with a Volcano.
Normally 12 to 14 briquettes will supply enough heat for Dutch Oven cooking and will give you 1 to 1 1/2 hours of cooking time depending on the vent settings. Control of the vents is important and by using the vent regulator, you can extend the total cooking time. Usually no top heat is required unless you are baking, stacking, or browning. Most Dutch Oven recipes do require top heat so we suggest using a couple of pieces of heavy duty tin foil to form a small dome over the top of your oven.
Stacking Dutch Ovens is common with a Volcano, and ovens of various sizes can be stacked. When stacking ovens, charcoal is placed on top of the inserted oven and the heat is radiated to the second oven above. You can then put coals on the top of the second oven to more evenly distribute heat. Don’t place more than two Dutch Ovens on top of the inserted oven as this will effect stability. You will find that a Volcano will allow you to use fewer coals than called for in most Dutch Oven recipes. Cooking with a Dutch Oven requires some practice in determining the exact number , and placement of the coals in the Volcano.
